An action-packed lineup of racing
entertainment at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, June 12, featured
the USAC National Midgets, Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure
8’s, MMRA Mini Cups, Baby Grands and MMRA Future Stars.
Teddy Beach scored the USAC National Tour victory with
Curtis Chapman winning a thrilling Boss Hogg Catering & Jerky
Figure 8 feature. Josh Byrns won the MMRA Mini-Cup feature with Bill
Christie the winner of the Baby Grand main and Zach Coll earning the
MMRA Future Star win.
Teddy Beach of Donnelsville, Ohio,
recorded his second career USAC National Midget feature victory,
winning the 40-lap race. Beach led all 40 laps after starting from
the pole in his Beach Manufacturing/Fram Beast/Mopar.
Aaron
Pierce, second-place finisher in the May 29, Pay Less/Delco Remy
Little 500 Sprint car race at the quarter-mile mile track, finished
second, ahead of Ron Gregory, series point leader Bobby East and
Tracy Hines.
Anderson’s Curtis Chapman won a spectacular Boss
Hogg Catering and Jerky Figure 8 feature, making a charge from his
seventh starting position to record his first victory of the season.
Pole-starter Rod Phipps darted into leadership honors at the drop of
the green flag, ahead of Jeff Swinford, Ronnie Phipps and Jimmy
Kirby.
Chapman rose to fifth position on lap
five, passing Donnie Ellis Jr. and Dale Phillips in the early stages
of the 20-lap event. At the 10-lap mark, Chapman bypassed Kirby for
third and then set his sights on second running Swinford. Continuing
to climb up the leader board, Chapman drove his No. 8 Sunny Bunny
Tanning car into second on the 14th circuit and then began a great
battle with leader Rod Phipps.
On the 18th circuit, Chapman
drove around Phipps with an impressive move to charge into the first
position. At the finish, Chapman pulled away to win over Phipps,
Swinford, Kirby and fast qualifier Ronnie Rose.
Rod Phipps
drove into the Texas Roadhouse Winner’s Circle in the first Boss
Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 heat race, with Alexandria’s John
Goforth taking the checkered flag in the second heat.
In the
MMRA Mini-Cup feature, Josh Bryns scored the victory. He passed Jay
Robinson on the ninth circuit, leading the final 41 laps of the
event. At the checkers, Bryns was followed by Joseph Meyer, Gary
Whitson, Robins and Anthony Leitner.
Bill Christie darted into the
first position on lap 10 of the MMRA Baby Grands feature, leading
the final 25 laps. Christie was chased across the finish line by
Troy Turner, Steve Verbeki, Tyler Brown and Chad Ramsey. The MMRA
Future Stars victory was awarded to Zach Coll, who finished ahead of
Hunter Willis and Jesse Michael.
Anderson Speedway returns to
action with the Boss Hogg Pitt BBQ & Catering Hog Wild Fun
Weekend beginning on Friday, June 18. The MAX/WLBC Friday Night
Summer Series features McCrocklin Ford and Mobility Legends, Insight
ThunderCars on the oval and Figure 8 and Chappy's Rent to Own Front
Wheel Drives. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for kids ages 6-12 and
free for children five and under.
On Saturday night, June 19, the
C.A.R.S. Late Models, Ed Martin Auto Group Super Trucks and Boss
Hogg Catering & Jerky Figure 8 cars will compete on the world’s
fastest quarter-mile paved oval. Admission is $10 for adults, $4 for
children ages 6-12 and free for kids five and under.
