MHE2 Motorsports Moves Into National Baby Grand Points Lead

 

FRANKLIN, Tenn., June 17, 2004 – Middle-Tennessee’s own MHE2 Motorsports has taken sole possession of the Miniature Motorsports Racing Association (MMRA) Pro National points lead for Baby Grand race cars with driver Bill Christie (Shelbyville, Tenn.). MHE2, a former Baby Grand National Road Course champion, has dominated 2004 competition at tracks both regionally and nationally. Since the start of the year, Christie and team owner Mark Hyjek (Franklin, Tenn.), have taken track records and victories at some of the country’s most difficult racetracks in what are visually smaller scale stock cars. Most recently, Christie won the pole position with a new track record at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP). The IRP speed broke Christie’s own record, shared with current NASCAR Truck Series points’ leader Carl Edwards, set several seasons ago at the famous, short track that has been the launching point for many NASCAR and IndyCar Racing winners. MHE2 was also the first to set a new track record at Andersen (Ind.) Speedway before narrowly being beaten for the pole. However, at the end of the day, the car preparation and Christie’s skill took the victory at the Indiana oval.

 

Christie currently sits eight points up on his nearest competitor as the teams enter into their final regional and national events. Upcoming races include a return to IRP where MHE2 feels confident that they can better their sweep of earlier this season. MHE2’s now famous No. 3 will also be seen at the next national event, held at Star Speedway in New Hampshire. Another national victory will lock-down Christie’s 2004 title aspirations adding to an impressive resume that includes the 2002 Baby Grand National title and stints in late model stock cars, racing trucks, USAC midgets and Silver Crown cars and more.

 

Mark Hyjek, team owner/ manager: “Our team has had a very trying season with many rewards. Bill is a real energizing leader, both on the track and in the pits. His desire to win keeps all of us searching for the perfect combinations for every race. His determination and our crew’s drive to put him in the best car we can will be the keys for us to tie this championship up. The only item that I see might hold us back is funding. As everyone in any type of motorsports knows most of the time finding backing is a harder challenge than the actual racing.”

 

Since its last serious run at baby grand titles, MHE2 was competing, and winning, in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Truck series at the Fairgrounds Speedway, Nashville, Tennessee.
